Having said of of that, I do have to say that the Pre-K seems to be amazing. I do not know what the difference is or why the Pre-K teachers seem to have better control in the classrooms, but there's a marked difference between Pre-K and the other grades.
Other than the lack of discipline, I think the administrators genuinely care about the children. They push them hard, and at times it seems too hard, but they want to keep the feather in their hat with regard to being in the top ten for reading.
Although this is my first year with at east. I have to say I'm completely satisfied with the teacher my son has for pre k. Mrs Wilson is wonderful and has done so much for my son this year. The staff I have met seem very nice and friendly. I hope for more positive years to come!!!
Teachers and admins are friendly and seemingly professional. However, they completely lack control of the bullies in the school. The school has a zero tolerance policy, but it is not enforced. My child went from being on track and enthusiastic about school to falling behind and hating it. And, despite her lack of progress they insisted on promoting her to the next grade.
The school has an excellent rating, but I surmise this is because they have no testing to determine if a child will pass or fail so everyone passes. The state does not mandate testing until grade 3, at which time the child is the responsibility of the next school. So, on the surface it looks like each child is promoted and doing well, but in reality they're pushing them through regardless of the progress they've made in each grade.
Could definitely use some improvement, as the administrators are extremely reluctant to properly discipline the kids that have anger issues, ie, the bullies. Being that this school only goes to second grade, it's comprised of all young children. With that you would expect there to be a lot of grey area with regard to zero tolerance and punishment for breaking the rules. However, my child has several bullies in her class. She has been punished for very minor things, (talking during quiet time and giving another student a high five which is considered inappropriate touching). Yet the bullies can hit, kick and steal from her and others without any punishment at all. So, to me, there is too much grey area.
If you're enrolling your child in this school I wish you well.
If I had to do it over again I would not have bought a home in this area. This isn't so much due to the school as it is Hickman County as a whole, but I know that there are schools, police departments and fire departments in surrounding areas that are way better. Not the best place for a child to grow up.
Also, it's worth noting, unless you want your Kindergartner to develop a colorful vocabulary that would put a world renown sailor to shame, you best plan on driving them to school daily. The school bus is a mix of age groups up to high school, and is packed full of the finest little punks in the area.
